AWRW Book Review: Agent I1: Tristan (The Dire Agency) by Joni Hahn + Book Freebie!

18777275Raised in the art of warfare, Former Navy SEAL, Tristan Jacobs, has always been a force to reckon with. Now that D.I.R.E. has successfully implemented his scientific enhancements, he’s a walking weapon. Unstoppable, as long as he stays focused. No relationships.

When ex-BUD/S teammate, Aidan Monroe, interrupts his long-awaited sabbatical to call in a favor, Tristan reluctantly fills the simple request: take out his sister’s fiancé.

One problem: Rachel Monroe – smokin’ hot, kind-hearted, and in desperate need of a protector. After the best sex of his life, Tristan’s afraid unstoppable is just a memory. Knowing Aidan’s temper, Tristan could be, too.

Rachel Monroe had a plan to help her mother. Her brother ruined everything when his gorgeous, super-agent friend teleported her to some forsaken island – and his bed. She’s drawn to him despite the fact he’s a professional agent, much like the people suspected of killing her father.

Now, his enemies have come to her small town, looking for vengeance.

Have they found more than they bargained for? Or, does the past have its own retribution in mind?

What’s It About?

Tristan, a former Navy Seal, works for the D.I.R.E. Agency as a super-agent. He has supernatural abilities, including teleportation and the power to become invisible. He has no family, and isn’t interested in falling in love.

Tristan’s friend, and former ex-BUD/S teammate, needs a huge favor; take out his sister, Rachel’s fiance. What Tristan wasn’t expecting was the challenge of his life; not falling in love with Rachel.

“Was she really standing on the Scottish shore, barefoot with the hottest man this side of sanity? A man that kidnapped her from her own wedding? A man that she had no business admiring because she was still engaged?”

Falling in love with Rachel makes Tristan a target, but he refuses to leave her side, even if it costs him his life…

“If I die, I want to die for something I believe in and take my word for it, there isn’t much out there. But you, Rachel, you’re worth dying for.”

Joni Hahn takes her readers on a wild ride, full of revenge, and romance, with a supernatural twist!

My Thoughts

First, I want to mention that I won this novel in a contest, mentioned I was a book reviewer, and promised the Author a review. I may not have picked it up otherwise, but I’m glad that I did. I don’t read a lot of science fiction, but the romance element made it enjoyable for me. From now on, I will give romantic sci-fi a chance!

Rachel wasn’t my favorite heroine of all time, and I didn’t jump into her character and live vicariously through her like I do with other books. I would have liked it if Rachel had more of a “bad ass” role, like Tristan. (And yes, I did picture Tristan and Rachel as Eric and Sookie. They are my favorite go-to couple 🙂 )

Tristan however, was all that and a bag of chips! He was as tough as a $2 steak, but he showed his softer side too. I enjoyed his character.

I enjoyed the suspense of this novel. The author really does take her readers on a wild ride, and I am eager to continue the series.

And of course, if you enjoy science fiction, you should check it out!

About The Author

Joni HahnBy day, Joni Hahn keeps her secret decoder ring hidden while she works as a mild-mannered HR manager and accounting generalist. She believes the world can never have too many superheroes, and anxiously waits for the call when one will need help saving the world… or getting into his costume. Joni was born with a hopelessly tender heart and believes there is nothing more exhilarating than falling in love (Other than the rear shot of Chris Evans in The Avengers – that was pretty darn exhilarating). A native Texan, she thinks cowboys are the epitome of masculinity, and that country music is the other soul music.

Joni’s five-book sci fi romantic suspense series, The D.I.R.E. Agency, is available now. Look for Book 6, Agent N6: Dylan and Book 7, Agent U7: Keegan, available in 2015
