Book Review: The Dream Thieves (Book II of The Raven Cycle), by Maggie Stiefvater

Ronan has secrets… Secrets that are incomprehensible. One secret: Ronan can steal things from his dreams and bring them back with him when he wakes up. Ronan is a dream thief.

The Dream Thieves is book II in the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, set immediately upon where book I, The Raven Boys, ended. It is a story of secrets, dreams, and magic.

*Big sighs* I wish I could feel the same way about The Dream Thieves as I see Stiefvater’s rabidly devoted fans do. She is an excellent writer, but I sometimes find myself dozing off chapter after chapter, and thinking of other things instead. Then I get completely lost and have no clue what is going on. The Dream Thieves picked up for me after page 200 or so, when Ronan begins really experimenting with his dreams and what objects he can bring back with him into reality.

I don’t “dislike” this series so I gave it 2 stars. There is a lot to like about the characters themselves. Blue is ultra lovable, and I was glad her story carried over from The Raven Boys.

Sorry Maggie Stiefvater fans… I’m just not drinking the Stiefvater Kool Aid like a lot of you are.
Maybe the next book will capture my heart. :/
