Book Review: Red Velvet Cupcake Murder, by Joanne Fluke

All Hannah Swenson wants to do is bake and deliver red velvet cupcakes for the grand opening of a refurbished hotel. However, Hannah gets herself embroiled into yet another mystery when one of the party-goers, (the sheriff’s secretary), is either pushed/or jumps from the rooftop of the hotel. To make things even worse, Hannah’s long time rival Doctor Bev is back, and in attendance at the party…

Everyone is preoccupied with solving the mystery, except Doctor Bev, who is preoccupied with getting back together with Hannah’s love interest Norman… As frustrating as Doctor Bev is, when she orders a large order of cookies and red velvet cupcakes from Hannah, being the good business woman that she is, she happily fulfills her order. Unfortunately, later that day Doctor Bev is found dead at the bottom of a lake, presumably poisoned by Hannah’s cupcakes.

Are the two incidents coincidental? Hannah needs to solve the mystery before she finds herself pulled out of the bakery and put behind bars.

Red Velvet Cupcake Murder, by Joanne Fluke is a sweet culinary mystery that I liked very much. In the style of Fluke’s other murder mysteries, the book is chock full of recipes. Readers who enjoy a murder mystery with a sweet twist will enjoy Red Velvet Cupcake Murder. I recommend it!
